Associated Facilities and Laboratories

The Virtual Human Dynamics Laboratory (VirtHulab) is a scientific laboratory founded in 2008 and affiliated with the Department of Education, Languages, Intercultures, Literatures and Psychology (FORLILPSI), located in Pavilion 26 of San Salvi, Florence.

Since 2008, the Virtual Human Dynamics Laboratory has been exploring topics related to virtual environments and the use of new technologies through the tools of statistical mechanics and complex systems science. Particular attention is given to the psychosocial and neurocognitive aspects of these dynamics.

The laboratory’s scientific network consists of scholars from different universities and research fields, enabling a multidisciplinary understanding of human phenomena related to the Internet and technological artifacts. The laboratory’s distinctly multidisciplinary vocation allows the integration of neurocognitive measures, such as pupillometry and event-related potentials, psychological measures, and performance measures, for the study of human interaction within virtual environments and through new technologies.


Labima, laboratory for the study of maritime energies.

LABIMA - Maritime Engineering Laboratory of the University of Florence - has been operating for over thirty years in the fields of coastal dynamics, port engineering, and offshore renewable energy. LABIMA is equipped with several research facilities, such as wave and current flumes, numerical models, and field equipment.

The NETBHEE LAB (Network, Behavioral, Heterogeneity and Evolution in Economics) research unit aims to serve as a meeting point, both nationally and internationally, for researchers exploring the heterogeneity of economic agents, their behaviors and interactions within network structures, as well as the evolutionary dynamics of the economic system.


LivingLab-beXLab (building environmental eXperience) is a research laboratory based on a collaborative and user-oriented approach, bringing together interdisciplinary expertise to enhance environmental experience in processes of transformation and revitalization of the built environment.


The Research Laboratory of Environmental Technical Physics, equipped with instruments and sensors dedicated to microclimate and indoor and outdoor air quality, as well as drones and FLIR IR thermal cameras and lighting sensors, develops methodological approaches and practical-operational research oriented toward environmental design, energy efficiency, project management, adaptivity and sustainability, indoor air quality, Human Centric Lighting, Human Health and Safety, energy systems engineering, end-user experience, and information and data communication.
